Essex Residence

This gracious mid-nineteenth century captain's house was lovingly restored by the clients. A new garage and barn were added as was a simple pool. The clients, enthusiastic gardeners, requested a site program that included refining the driveway, new entry walkways, a kitchen garden and new terrace that blended with an existing terrace as well as a pool enclosure that met code requirements but did not block views or a sense of flow from the house.

The resulting design, rendered in local granite walls and paving, cedar fencing and ornamental plantings, creates a sense of place, a beautiful sanctuary that complements the historic house and features the horticultural skills of the clients.
